Tonight Rhiannon and I saw Tom Ballard’s comedy festival show. It was the first of three we will be attending this year and I’m super happy and nervous that the bar has been set extremely high. Tom’s show it outrageously funny and he epitomises what I love about comedy. Or, as I should say, a certain type of comedy. I think the most skilled comedians not only make you laugh but they have the ability to make you FEEL. That’s right internet, I like my comedy to have a big fat beating heart, and Tom Ballard’s has just that. His comedy is clever and his honesty is awesome. He’s, like, so real, man.
The show opened with The Decemberists’ Don’t Carry It All and closed with Bring It All Back by S Club 7, two perfect choices. What I found most charming about Tom’s show was how brilliant his comedic timing is and how “Gen Y” he is, if that makes sense. Perhaps because I too was born in 1989, which means I relate best to references relevant to my generation … I guess that makes literal perfect sense. I could have explained that easier with "When people talk about Harry Potter, I understand it and I like it”.
Awesome comedy shows aside, it was also lovely walking around the city in the autumn weather. It’s my favourite season, yo!
And as much as I don’t want to be that person, I’m still going to share the twitter interaction I had with Tom post-show (is that the lamest sentence ever?). Mostly because it shows what a great dude he is and I legitimately respect and admire him.
